Coercion Free Nebraska (CFN) is a statewide initiative concentrated
on three fundamental objectives geared towards reducing the use of
restraint and seclusion in health systems and facilities.
CFN believes we must first rethink
our current culture and mindset. The existence of
seclusion and restraint sends a message to treatment staff and the
public that people
with mental illnesses are dangerous. It is time to deliver a new
message.
Shifting from words to actions is another critical piece in the
CFN transformation process. Reform begins
with each of us. CFN hopes to foster a system of care for individuals
and families that embraces and creates treatment environments that
minimize coercion.
CFN educates and empowers providers and consumers alike through:
• Public
speaking presentations • Agency protocol revisions • Educational
opportunities
The end result leads to respect.
CFN actively promotes a mental health system that
treats people with dignity and respect, protects individuals’
rights, provides the best
care possible, assists in their recovery, and instills a sense of
hope for the future. |
